YOUNG businesswoman Jayne McKeown is an inspiration to others looking to be their own boss.
That's the verdict of her mum Kathleen, who has nominated the 23-year-old for Role Model of the Year in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.
Miss McKeown set up Tinkerbells Treasures, which sells unusual designer jewellery, handbags, LED Street Light LU04-112W accessories, clothes and household items, in 2004.
Originally based in Front Street, Tynemouth, she moved the shop to Fowler Street, South Shields, in November last year, and business is booming.
Mrs McKeown, 47, from Wansbeck Road, Jarrow, said: "She is a very determined young woman and I believe she is an excellent role model to all in the area, especially young people and women.
"She has demonstrated that others can Yves Saint Handags Replica do the same."
Miss McKeown, from Jarrow, re-located to South Shields after securing a vital [pounds sterling]15,000 loan through South Tyneside Means Business.
A former politics and sociology student at Northumbria University, she found she had a talent for making her own jewellery, which she initially sold at local market stalls.
This blossomed into Tinkerbells Treasures, which she launched at Tedco Business Centre, Jarrow, after receiving start-up grants of about [pounds sterling]3,000 from Business Link.
Miss McKeown said: "I'm gobsmacked to be nominated, but it is a really nice thought. It makes me feel quite proud."
